Digital stories by Kindergarteners:
We used photo story to tell facts about pets. The kindergarteners picked their music and decided how to order their pictures independently. This activity correlated nicely with our state standards in reading and writing. The first student is a student that came to me at the begining of the year and would not say much (very shy). Now when she gets up to talk in front of the class she is understood and is loud enough that we can hear her. The second student stuggles with writing and fine motor skills so I use the digital stories to help him meet his goals in writing without the actual writing. I have found that Kindergarteners struggle coming up with the ideas as well as writing. So, I try to find a way to engage them so they become more comfortable with the writing process. After this project I witnessed heightened interest in the writing process by the students.
.
These are some apps that my kindergarteners use on the i-pod and i-pad. I use these more for a tier 1 and tier 2 intervention depending on their need. My favorite one is the sound sort. The tracing ones are great for those students that have difficulty with letter formation. The kindergarteners know how to turn the i-pod on and pick the games that I ask them to.
